Principal’s Message

School Captains

This week our year 2 – 5 students voted on who they consider to be the best applicants for our school captains for 2020. The voting took place in the stadium with everyone using polling slips and strategies to help select the best people for this important role. The candidates were given a microphone and lectern to assist with projecting their voices and reading their speeches. The votes were then collated and a shortlist was generated from student and teacher votes.

We selected 3 boys and 3 girls with the highest votes to be interviewed by Mr Vague and myself on Wednesday afternoon.

We were extremely happy with the voting process, interview procedure and the level of maturity students displayed during the whole process.

Ultimately, we were required to choose four students to be School Captains. Any of the shortlisted students could have equally been selected and would do an amazing job. I am therefore, extremely proud to announce our School Captains for 2020 below:

Jackson P 5/6A Kayleen M 5/6 A

Caleb M 5/6E Karen E 5/6F

We look forward to working with this group of students next year and anticipate great outcomes from each of these students.

The House Captain speeches were delivered this morning and we are waiting for the results. I am hoping we will be able to announce these captains today.

Bus for 2020

We have a parent at school who owns a fleet of buses.  He has offered to pick up and drop students to and from school on a daily basis for a small fee. Jason is suggesting that the bus will pick up from individual houses in the morning and drop students at the walking gate on Haflinger Avenue. He will then pick them up from the same place after school and drive them to their individual homes.

Clearly this is to help reduce the traffic congestion around the immediate vicinity of the school and also to help parents who may struggle to get their children to and from school for a variety of reasons.

At the beginning of next year, we will send an expression of interest to all families to gauge whether this option would be something parents would consider. Should we receive sufficient responses we will work out how this approach may operate and then attempt to get this happening as soon as possible.

I am sure you have questions as do we and these questions should be answered in the New Year when Jason has had time to put together an information leaflet to clarify all queries and concerns.

 Parent Helpers

Thank you to all those parents and volunteers who came this morning to share morning tea with us and celebrate a fabulous year of learning.

It is always a pleasure to meet and greet our parents in a casual setting and to express our sincere gratitude to all parents whether they were at the morning tea or not, and thank you all for your continued support and help across the year.

Without the dedication of our parents who support learning at home, our students would not have been as successful as they have.

We hope our small gesture this morning went a little way to communicate how grateful we are to all of you.
